As a subfield of angiology, lymphology is the science of the diseases of the lymphatic vessels (Latin "lympha" - "clear water", "spring water"). All over the human body, there are lymph streams (lymph capillaries, lymph vessels) in which albuminous liquid (lymph) can drain off through the lymph nodes.
Illnesses of these vessels go along with lymphedema, as for instance with women after breast surgery, but also congenital in the lower extremities or after surgery (e.g. vene extraction).
Lymphology addresses identification of these diseases and their systematic treatment (lymph drainage, compressive bandage, surgery, etc.).
